Polyamide 6 (PA6)
Polyamides, or PA in short, are a group of technical plastics, more precisely thermoplastics. They are known for their high (tensile) strength, viscosity, abrasion-resistance and elasticity. The trade name “Nylon” has established itself colloquially in the minds of many consumers. Polyamides are used in many products of daily life, such as sports- and outdoor clothing but also in technical applications such as machine, automotive and aircraft manufacturing. PA 6, a polymer from the polyamide family, features interesting technical properties. E.g. its high viscosity, abrasion-resistance and resistance against oils, fats and fuels makes it highly suitable for many mechanical components, gears and technical fibers. It is most used as fibers in clothing, parachutes, sails, nets, ropes, etc.
